1-Year Surprise Anniversary Picnic : Del Mar
I'm a sucker for a good surprise. I'm even more of a sucker for husbands who surprise their wives on their anniversary...with their closest friends...with an intimate beachside picnic...in the same location as their wedding. As soon as Shaun emailed me with this idea, I just knew I needed to be apart of this celebration. I mean...this is husband of the year status! But before I get too ahead of myself, let me give you a little background:
Shaun and Sogol planned their wedding ceremony in the beautiful Sea Grove Park in Del Mar last April. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans and their beachside wedding ceremony was rained out with less than 1 hour prior to Sogol walking down the aisle. Shaun knew how devastated his wife was after she had spent months perfecting every last detail of their special day. Honestly, it broke my heart just listening! Fast forward one year to Shawn, now living in Brazil, contacting me with the idea of celebrating his and Sogol's 1-year wedding anniversary by hosting an intimate lunch in the same park as their rained out ceremony one year ago...and the best part? Shaun wanted it to be a surprise. I mentioned husband of the year already, right? Shaun and I worked together over the next few weeks developing a design and how the surprise would go down, which also included a few random trips to the "grocery store" to throw of Sogol while we secretly discussed the details over the phone.
While I focused on creating a modern take on the traditional picnic and pulling together vendors to help set the perfect atmosphere, Shaun invited some of his and Sogol's closest family and friends, some even flying in from out of town to be there that day. Their lunch was complete with a yummy summer spread (complete with hand-tied sandwiches), champagne, spanish guitar, a seriously delicious passion-fruit cake, and most importantly, a table full of their closest friends.
You know that saying "love is in the air"? I've never felt something so real until that day. I may have only worked with Shaun for a short amount of time and even though I never met Sogol until the actual day of the event, there is an unconditional and forever kind of love there that can move mountains. I couldn't be happier to have been apart of celebrating their 1-year anniversary and wish them so many more memorable anniversaries!
